Juventus
Having been knocked out of the Champions League, Juventus will have to focus all of their efforts on the Scudetto race. The Coppa Italia hangs in the balance, but there is still a chance of Serie A glory, and points will need to be scooped up from now until the final day of the season in May. Bologna come to town this weekend, but the Vinovo-based outfit are still trying to heal the pain of European elimination.
Apart from rock-bottom Reggina, Bologna have conceded the most goals in Serie A so far. Juve have one of the best attacks in the league and thus three points should be heading towards Turin if the coach plays his cards right. No more mistakes can be afforded by the Vecchia Signora. The game on Saturday represents the perfect chance to narrow the gap down to just four points.
Bologna
The last decent away performance from Bologna came exactly a month to the day come kick-off time – a 1-1 draw away to Napoli on February 14, with Di Vaio grabbing the goal at San Paolo for his side. Since then, the team have lost to Inter and Lazio, before bouncing back to win 3-0 at the Dall’Ara against ‘Doria last week. The players have been training hard all this week. In addition they will be fresher than their opponents who are still trying to recover from Tuesday night’s European adventures. Juve always seem to struggle against teams fighting for survival, and this could be just the moment for the away side to rack up some precious points to continue working towards their objectives.
Team News
Juve will be without Mohamed Sissoko who is recovering from a broken foot, while Nicola Legrottaglie, Mauro Camoranesi, Cristiano Zanetti and Paolo De Ceglie all trained separately from the rest of the squad. Pavel Nedved suffered a rib injury against Chelsea and he is looking doubtful for Bologna. Marco Marchionni is also struggling and he is likely to be rested. David Trezeguet is suffering from muscular fatigue, while Amauri is likely to be out for a month after pulling a muscle in his right leg.
Gabi Mudingayi and Salvatore Lanna returned to train with the rest of the squad on Thursday after being out with injury. The duo are likely to be in contention and Lanna could be drafted into the left-back position. Mudingayi may take over from Massimo Mutarelli in the middle. Di Vaio is likely to start up front on his own as Mihajlovic reverts to a five-man midfield. Massimo Marazzina has still not recovered from injury, while Aparecido Cesar and Vangelis Moras are looking doubtful.
My prediction: JUVENTUS -3/4
