Serie A 15/3/2009: Siena vs AC Milan

Siena

If Siena were a better away side, they could very well be challenging for a European spot this term, but ten losses on the road has scuppered those hopes. However, they play Milan in front of their home supporters, where they have excelled this season.

Playing within the friendly confines of the Stadio Artemio Franchi, Siena have compiled a record of six wins, five draws and just two losses. Frankly, their good home form is the only thing keeping Siena out of the relegation zone. They are currently seven points clear of the drop zone, and if not for their difficult schedule the rest of the way, they would look like a safe bet to stay in Serie A.

Although, they can come into this match versus Milan with at least a small amount of optimism. Milan have played very poorly on their travels this season. Through 13 away matches, Milan have won four, drawn four and lost five! Having given up only seven goals this season at home, Siena will feel they can get something positive from this match.

AC Milan
With nothing left to play for, other than to secure a top four finish, Milan must still buckle down and get the full allotment of points every time out. They are five points ahead of fourth place Fiorentina in the Serie A table, but they have not guaranteed themselves a UEFA Champions League spot for next season just yet.

Milan have been saying for quite some time now that third place was their goal, having fallen well behind league leaders Inter in the title race. But they are only five points behind second place Juventus, so they should be aiming for that place in the table.

Team News
Luca Rossettini and Mirko Guadalupi are the only players sure to miss out through injury for the home side. Daniele Galloppa is suspended for this match. Daniele Portanova, Manuel Coppola, Nicola Amoruso, Massimo Maccarone and Emanuele Calaio will be suspended if they receive a yellow card in this match.

In Milan, Alessandro Nesta, Kakha Kaladze and Gennaro Gattuso are out for the season, and Marco Borriello is doubtful to play the rest of the way. Ronaldinho, Kaka and Clarence Seedorf are not entirely fit and are all out for this match. Giuseppe Favalli returns from suspension, while Massimo Ambrosini and Marek Jankulovski face a one-match suspension if they are cautioned.

My prediction: AC MILAN -1/4
