International Friendly 29/3/2009: England vs Slovakia

England

England are top of Group Six, share with Spain the distinction of having a 100 percent record after four matches, and are the top scorers in the European qualifying groups with 14 goals, Capello appears to be well on top of things. But this Saturday’s friendly will be somewhat different from earlier ones because it immediately precedes a World Cup qualifier. And what’s more, opponents Slovakia are not only top of their own Group (Three), but also played last month against Ukraine, whom England host on Wednesday. More pointers than usual are therefore likely to be drawn from the English performance against the Slovaks. And for their part, the team coached by Vladimir Weiss will regard a test at Wembley as meaningful preparation for their midweek qualifier against neighbour and rivals the Czech Republic in Prague.

Everton left-back Leighton Baines was called up to the squad, and Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster was also drafted in. Spurs winger Aaron Lennon, will be in contention with Shaun Wright-Phillips and potential record-breaker David Beckham. Emile Heskey is expected to partner “crazy man” Wayne Rooney in attack. Liverpudlian Steven Gerrard are back in the squad for the first time since the qualifying win in Belarus last October.

Form
Spain 2-0 England
Germany 1-2 England ( Matthew Upson, John Terry)
Belarus 1-3 England ( Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney*2)
England 5-1 Kazakhstan ( Rio Ferdinand, OG, Wayne Rooney*2, Jermain Defoe)
Croatia 1-4 England ( Theo Walcott*3, Wayne Rooney)

Squad

Goalkeepers: David James (Portsmouth), Robert Green (West Ham United), Ben Foster (Manchester United)

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), John Terry (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Matthew Upson (West Ham United).

Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), David Beckham (AC Milan), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham Hotspur), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool).

Forwards: Carlton Cole (West Ham United), Peter Crouch (Portsmouth), Emile Heskey (Aston Villa), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).

Slovakia

Slovakia currently lead Group 3 in qualification for the 2010 World Cup, ahead of both Poland and the Czech Republic. They have held their own in recent times, even managing to beat Poland in a World Cup qualifier.

Slovakia were embarassed by Cyprus in a February 2009 friendly, but Vladimir Weiss’ side will give it their all against England. There is some talent in the squad- defender Martin Skrtel, striker Robert Vittek, midfielders Stanislav Sestak and Marek Hamsik, as well as old warhorse Miroslav Karhan.

Liverpool centre-back Martin Skrtel is likely to be the pivotal figure in Slovakia’s defence, with Vladimir Weiss having included both him and fellow Premier League defender Marek Cech of West Bromwich Albion in his 24-man squad, along with midfielder Marek Hamsik of Napoli and strikers Marek Mintal of Nuremberg and Robert Vittek of Lille.

Form
Cyprus 3-2 Slovakia (Erik Jendrisek, Robert Jez)
Slovakia 2-3 Ukraine (Robert Vittek, Marek Hamsyk)
Slovakia 4-0 Liechtenstein ( Robert Vittek, Marek Hamsyk*2, Robert Jez)
Slovakia 2-1 Poland ( Stanislav Sestak*2)
San Marino 1-3 Slovakia ( Stanislav Sestak, Miroslav Karhan,Jan Kozak)

Squad

Goalkeepers: Stefan Senecky (Ankaraspor), Jan Mucha (Legia Warsaw), Lubos Kamenar (Artmedia Petrzalka).

Defenders: Martin Skrtel (Liverpool), Peter Pekarik (Wolfsburg), Marek Cech (West Bromwich Albion), Jan Durica (Lokomotiv Moscow), Jan Cisovsky (Timisoara), Roman Kratochvil (Konyaspor), Radoslav Zabavnik (Terek Groznyi), Martin Dobrotka (Slovan Bratislava), Jozef Valachovic (Slovan Bratislava).

Midfielders: Stanislav Sestak (Bochum), Jan Kozak (Slovan Bratislava), Branislav Obzera (Slovan Bratislava), Marek Hamsik (Napoli), Zdeno Strba (Zilina), Marek Sarapa (Rosenborg), Miroslav Karhan (Mainz 05).

Forwards: Robert Vittek (Lille), Filip Holosko (Besiktas), Marek Mintal (Nuremberg), Erik Jendrisek (Kaiserslautern), Martin Jakubko (Khimki).

World Cup is back!!

Posted by Go Tipsters Admin On March - 26 - 2009

World Cup qualifiers are resuming this weekend, and I will be posting a coverage and an analysis for some matches this Saturday. England must will travel to Ukraine next week, Italy visit Montenegro on Saturday while Spain will welcome Turkey. There are other intriguing ties, too: the Netherlands face Scotland, France meet Lithuania, and Portugal welcome Sweden in UEFA matches.

In CONMEBOL qualification in South America, Argentina face off with Venezuela before Brazil travel to Ecuador this weekend.

And also in Africa, the home of World Cup 2010, Nigeria will visit Mozambique and Egypt’s welcoming Zambia. North and Central America’s CONCACAF qualification sees United States visit El Salvador and Mexico face Costa Rica to get things started.

Those are pretty much the highlights of what will be happening this weekend in the World Cup 2010 Qualification.

Which match you would love me to post the analysis and predictions? Leave your comments….

So.. How Good We Are?

Posted by Go Tipsters Admin On March - 25 - 2009

It’s a pretty quite time for us soccer tipsters, as not many matches played in top European leagues.. at least not until this weekend, where all top soccer players will join their own national soccer team for World Cup 2010 Qualifying round.

At this moment, I would like to use this opportunity to give you an important information regarding my past performance since I started posting my analysis and picks on this blog 3 weeks ago. I compiled the list from my GoTipsters Result page and presented it here grouped by League and by weekly period.

Here we go…

EPL 22/3/2009: Manchester City vs Sunderland

Manchester City
Manchester City will aim to continue their excellent home form when they tackle Sunderland on Sunday. They have won all of their last seven league matches against Sunderland, while the Citizens have yet to be held to a draw at home. City may have little to play for domestically as they are unlikely to be relegated or secure enough points to finish in the European places this season. But with manager Mark Hughes promising major squad changes at the end of the season, he has effectively ensured his players will remain on their toes until their summer breaks begin.

Sunderland
Ricky Sbragia’s men have collected just two points from their last four games and lost 2-1 at home to Wigan in their most recent outing. Their poor run of form has seen the side slip down towards the relegation zone after some promising results before Christmas saw them make a steady ascent. Sbragia could welcome back several injured Cats to the line-up, but the gaffer knows Sunderland’s dismal record against Manchester City will be a big hurdle to overcome.

Team News
Hughes could be without Stephen Ireland and Wayne Bridge. Ireland suffered an ankle injury while Bridge was substituted early in the second half with a hamstring problem. Vincent Kompany will be reassessed for a reccurring toe injury that has plagued the midfielder for some time. Craig Bellamy could make an early return from a knee problem in this clash.

Anton Ferdinand and Nyron Nosworthy look to return from injury to boost Sbragia’s defensive options. Both have suffered hamstring injuries, with Ferdinand missing two games and Nosworthy missing nine. Tal Ben Haim will be unavailable and Teemu Tainio is seeking the aid of a specialist to solve a knee problem, while Kieran Richardson completes a two-match ban.

My prediction: Man City -1/2

Serie A 22/3/2009: Napoli vs Milan

Posted by Go Tipsters Admin On March - 22 - 2009

Napoli
The Campani are now without a win in 10, they are 11th in the table, and need to get back on track. In fact, the Neapolitans last victory at all was in the opening match of 2009 after the winter break, a 1-0 win over Catania on January 11. Since that game, Napoli have played on ten occasions, losing seven times and drawing thrice.

AC Milan
Manager Carlo Ancelotti decided to once again put his faith in Filippo Inzaghi to work wonders and keep Milan in third place. His faith has definitely been repaid. In the last two matches, Inzaghi has scored five goals, two in the 5-1 victory over Siena last weekend and a hat-trick against Atalanta the weekend before in a 3-0 win.

Team News
The home side has a long injury list at this point. Gennaro Iezzo, Christian Maggio, Luigi Vitale, Walter Gargano and Leandro Rinaudo will all be left in the stands for this match. Salvatore Aronica has been given a suspension and will miss out as well. Manuele Blasi, Paolo Cannavaro, Matteo Contini and Michele Pazienza are all facing suspension if they get cautioned.

Alessandro Nesta, Kakha Kaladze, Christian Abbiati and Gennaro Gattuso are out for the season, and Marco Borriello is doubtful to play the rest of the way. Kaka re-injured his foot in a substitute appearance last Sunday and there is no telling when he will be able to play again. Daniele Bonera is not entirely fit and could miss out as well.

Prediction
Napoli really need to win just to restore some pride and raise their spirits and Milan are hot at the moment, riding the goals of Filippo Inzaghi to victory two weeks in a row.

My prediction: AC MILAN -1/4
