Villarreal
Villareal will look for revenge after missing the CL Finals a couple of years ago getting narrowly knocked by Arsenal back then. This should be achievable remembering that their record in European competition is amazing. They never lost a home match in the Champions League (won four, drawn three) and unbeaten in 15 European home matches, which is a club record.
Arsenal
The Gunners head to Spain following an improved run of form which has seen them climb back up into the top four of the Barclays Premier League and secure an FA Cup semi-final. However, they have lost six of their 10 matches in Spain against Spanish opponents.
Team News
Villarreal winger Santi Cazorla will miss the remainder of the season because of fractured fibula. Ruben Gracia is in coach Manuel Pellegrini’s line-up along with Turkey striker Nihat Kahveci, but midfielder Bruno Sorriano will not play.
Arsenal striker Robin van Persie will miss tonight’s Champions League match with a groin injury. However, Samir Nasri and Theo Walcott have been passed fit while midfielder Andrey Arshavin is ineligible. Striker Eduardo and midfielder Abou Diaby remain sidelined.
Prediction
I believe the return of Eduardo, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Arsenal’s midfield maestro Cesc Fabregas will boost the team’s confident against Spanish opponent. On the other hand, Villarreal’s home record is fantastic. They have played 7 matches in Madrigal without any losses in Champions League. But tonight, I see Arsenal could stop Villarreal’s excellent record to continue.
