SC Freiburg

Freiburg just advanced to Bundesliga and got themselves some nice transfers with Bundesliga top goalscorer Cedric Makiadi from Wolfsburg and Stefan Reisinger the top assistman from Greuther Fürth.

Freiburg will miss Pouplin most likely, their 1st GK and Julian Schuster, one of the key players of the past season. Both misses are going to be a big blow for Freiburg.

Hamburger SV

Hamburg had probably one of the biggest signings in this transfer window by signing Markus Berg from Groningen,the European Championships U21 top goalscorer.

Bruno Labbadia already said that the crowd is going to see another Hamburg team, instead of those one losing to Randers on Thursday at home. It is highly expected that almost every player is going to be changed as Elia, Rost and Guerrero are back in the squad and therefore travelling to Freiburg.

Nürnberg

Promoted via the play-off, Nürnberg will want to start the season well as they begin their season at home to Schalke. Promoted sides are always the favourites to go straight back down again, but ‘der Klub’ look like the strongest of the three teams to have come up from the second division.

Schalke

Schalke have championship winner Felix Magath at the helm, but with little summer investment the Koenigsblauen cannot expect miracles from their new trainer this season.

Schalke

Schalke coaching trio Mike Buskens, Youri Mulder and Oliver Reck are hoping for a repeat of last season’s dominant display when they welcome Energie Cottbus to the Arena AufSchalke. They have won their first two games back on the bench, improving their overall record to seven wins and one draw while in charge, and now they are back in contention for one of the places that lead to Europe next season.

Cottbus

After a terrible losing run of five straight defeats, Cottbus finally got a crucial win this season in the game against Bielefeld, that kept their hopes of survival alive. Tonight they hope Kuranyi misfires as they seek to move out of the Bundesliga’s bottom three for only the second time this season since beating Werder Bremen 2-1 in February did Cottbus move out of the relegation zone.

Team News

Rafinha is back after suspension, while former captain Marcelo Bordon is likely to recover which means that Blues will field the strongest defense. Sanchez might be back to join Kuranyi-Farfan in front. Mladen Krstajic, Heiko Westermann, Christian Pander and Danny Latza will also play in defence. Grossmuller and Kenia are injured and will miss tonight’s match.

For Cottbus, Marco Kurth who has recovered from injury, as well as Emil Jula, so Energie will be much stronger in the midfield and have more cutting-edge in the attack. However, their starter Da Silva, Pavicevic, Sorensen and Rivic are out. Stanislav Angelov also unable to play because of suspension.

Prediction

Schalke won the first match in Cottbus 2:0 in spite of the fact that they were outnumbered during the whole second half. Tradition absolutely favours the Blues as they have never conceded a goal against Energie at home and they have never recorded a minimum win over this rival.

Arminia Bielefeld
Arminia Bielefeld has so much to play at the Schuco Arena where they will have the vociferous support of their home fans to boost their spirit. They had a streak of 5 draws and an away win over Karlsruher before losing to Wolsburg, the team which is currently sitting at Bundesliga top 3.

Schalke
Schalke have been having a poor run particularly in the their away matches with only 3 wins of the 13 matches. They have lost their last 2 consecutive matches when they went down 3-4 away to Wolfsburg and 1-2 at home to Hamburg.

Team News
Michael Lamey will be back to the line-up after recovering from an injury. Jonas Kamper will miss tonight match but Radim Kucera could play with a mask following a broken cheekbone. Top goalscorer Arthur Wichniarek, midfield Zlatko Janjic, Daniel Halfar and Robert Tesche will also perform.

Schalke is managerless now. Only Benedikt Howedes will be sidelined, which means they are close to full-strength. Schalke stars Ivan Rakitic, Jermaine Jones, Vicente Sanchez, Jefferson Farfan and Kevin Kuranyi must lift their team from poor form and start bringing in the results for the fallen giants. Gerald Asamoah, Christian Pander and Halil Altintop will all be looking to break into the starting 11 following Rutten’s departure.

Prediction
Bielefeld have their last win over Schalke at home back in 2002, in which they outclassed the visitor by 2-1. The other 4 meetings at Schuco Arena have ended with visitor’s glory and the home side have not scored a single goal during this 4-game run.
