Italian Serie A 10/5/2009: Atalanta vs Genoa

Atalanta

The season is over for Atalanta, who cannot qualify for Europe now, but who are also 15 points above the relegation zone and in no trouble whatsoever. Last weekend Atalanta looked jaded and uninterested as they lost 0-3 at 8th placed Udinese. Add in the fact that Atalanta have lost three of their last four home games, two of them against Reggina and Chievo.

Genoa

Genoa are battling hard for a Champions League spot, and sit just one point away from 4th placed Fiorentina. Genoa also have an easy looking run-in with Chievo, Torino and Lecce to come but it’s important for the Grifone, to pickup points from EVERY game as they chase Champions League football. Away form has not been the greatest asset for Genoa, but the last few months have brought a better return and a 3-1-1 record in the last five road games, suggests that coach Gian Piero Gasperini has found a way to get Genoa performing on the road.

Italian Serie A 3/5/2009: Genoa vs Sampdoria

Genoa

Gasperini was disappointed with the play in Bologna. He even stated that it was the worst performance of the team since he took over. Perhaps he exaggerated but the fact is that the team is out of form. They lost to Lazio and Bologna and we have seen nothing of the attractive play we are used to. That is why we expect changes in the team as the stakes are high and we don’t believe that Gasperini will be offensive as usual. Milito is back but the long break left traces. This autumn Genoa won the derby 1:0; it was a sweet win but a draw wouldn’t suit them now and they will have to impose their tempo. The complete team is at disposal which is a boost for the fans, Palladino and Sculli will join Milito. Former Juventus player was one of the rare ones that lived up to the expectations against Vologna. Jankovic will stay on the bench; Genoa usually crushed their rivals with great tempo in the second half. (Source: freebetting.net)

Sampdoria

Mazzari won’t rest the team. No one would forgive him such a thing, even though the Cup finals is due on Wednesday. Actually, if they win the Cup they will play in Europe for the second year in a row which will be a great success. However first they have to play the derby; Mazzario can county on all of his key players: Cassano, Pazzini and Palombo, the hero of the duel against Cagliari while the triple scorer Marilungo will stay on the bench. This young man, wjo is expected to be a major star, will get his chance in the second half. Ever since Genoa came back to Serie A two seasons ago, these teams have played three games, won a game each and drew one. Sampdoria were much weaker this autumn, troubled by injuries and without a real forward. Since Pazzini arrived things look much better, fantastic Cassano wasn’t so good against Cagliari but only couple of his moves can solve any game. (Source: freebetting.net)

Team News

Gian Piero Gasperini has no fresh selection worries ahead of Sunday’s crunch derby with the Blucerchiati. Diego Milito takes centre-stage in his second game back from injury alongside Raffaele Palladino and Giuseppe Sculli in the forward line.

In Sampdoria, Walter Mazzarri is expected to field his regular eleven following the use of some turnover in the 3-3 draw with Cagliari last Sunday. Claudio Bellucci and Manuel Da Costa are both carrying injuries but Giampaolo Pazzini returns to partner Cassano up top.

Italian Serie A 26/4/2009: Sampdoria vs Cagliari

Posted by Go Tipsters Admin On April - 26 - 2009

sampdoriacagliari

Cagliari are still in with a chance of qualifying for European football next season as they face a relaxed Sampdoria side at Marassi.

Sampdoria

Sampdoria have recovered to play their best football of the campaign in the last few months. A disastrous first half of the season had seen the team sit precariously close to the relegation zone, but the Blucerchiati have bounced back and have lost only two out of their last twelve Serie A matches.

Samp were riding a four-match unbeaten streak with victories over Torino and Lecce in that span. However, the streak was broken by Catania last weekend as Samp failed to find the back of the net for the first time in four matches. (Source: Goal.com)

Cagliari

Cagliari are in eighth position, four points behind AS Roma. This round will be fundamental for them with 6 matches remaining, to keep their European chance alive.

Cagliari have had an absolute dream season so far and have been the Cinderella story of Serie A. After losing their first five matches of the campaign, the Sardinian outfit have made a fairytale climb up the league ladder.

Massimiliano Allegri’s men currently sit in eighth place and are in the thick of things in the race to clinch a Europa League spot. It would be a stunning achievement for the islanders, and influential goalkeeper Federico Marchetti thinks they should give it their best shot. (Source: Goal.com)

Serie A 19/4/2009: AS Roma vs Lecce

Posted by Go Tipsters Admin On April - 19 - 2009

as-roma-logo-thumb.jpglecce-logo

AS Roma

Roma need to win this match to make sure they hold on 6th place that will guarantee them next season’s UEFA Cup qualification spot. This is mainly because their Champions League hopes looks to be out of their reach after last week defeat against Lazio. They are currently eight points adrift of the fourth-placed Genoa with just seven rounds of football remaining. Fiorentina are also in the race at fifth position, thus they don’t have much to hope for.

Lecce

They are winless for quite a while now and the change of coach brought no improvement. The Salentini have failed in their past nine matches, currently sit in a precarious 19th position, with just 24 points recorded from the 31 rounds of football.

Italian Serie A 5/4/2009: AS Roma vs Bologna

Posted by yaditya On April - 5 - 2009

AS Roma
With four matches without a win and have also been knocked out of the Champions League by Arsenal, there is already enough for Roma but there is still a chance to end the season in decent style by reaching fourth to grab the final qualifying spot for next season’s Champions League.

Bologna
Bologna have won just one of their past eight Serie A fixtures, against Sampdoria just under a month ago.
Sinisa Mihajlovic’s men is currently sitting in 17th place, just two points clear of Torino and Lecce. Their far from friendly calendar must send some warning signs to the Emiliani who will have to avoid slip-ups both home and away.

Form Guide

Roma
March 21 v Juventus (H) LOST 1-4
March 15 v Sampdoria (A) DREW 2-2
March 11 v Arsenal (H) WON 1-0 (Champions League)
March 7 v Udinese (H) DREW 1-1
March 1 v Inter (A) DREW 3-3

Bologna
March 22 v Cagliari (H) LOST 0-1
March 14 v Juventus (A) LOST 1-4
March 8 v Sampdoria (H) WON 3-0
February 28 v Lazio 0-2 (A) LOST 0-2
February 21 v Inter (H) LOST 1-2

Team News
Alberto Aquilani, Juan and Marco Cassetti have all been ruled out, as has Rodrigo Taddei, Cicinho and Mirko Vucinic, who has been under an injury cloud. The good news is, their captain Francesco Totti will be joined by Daniele De Rossi and David Pizarro tonight. Simone Perrotta is also rated a good chance to play from the start this weekend.

Captain Claudio Terzi, as well as Gaby Mudingayi and Cristian Zenoni will be back. Marco Di Vaio could be also set to make a timely return to action this weekend. Davide Marchini has recently joined Gabriele Paonessa and Miguel Britos on the sidelines, whilst Pablo Osvaldo is suspended.

Prediction
Roma will be confident of getting back their winning touch in front of their home fans.

My prediction: ROMA -1
